PPG: Pluck Of The Irish

The Celtics-Lakers rivalry has been reforged. It’s back. Officially.

Why wasn’t it official before now? Because before Christmas day and especially before last night, the rivalry was a one-sided one. It was the bullies vs. the pansy kids. The pansy kids had the best fighter of the whole lot, but the rest of his crew was timid. The operative word being “was.”

Now the Lakers have morphed into Alice Cooper — “No More Mr. Nice Guy.” Like in A Christmas Story, the Lakers not only stood up to the bully, they beat the bullies ass on his own turf. “We’re not gonna take it.” Yes, they got Twisted on their Sisters out East. And what the hell is up with me and the dated metal today?

Last night’s win against the Celtics was huge. The Lakers snapped the Celtics’ 12-game winning streak, remained undefeated this season against the Cs and their record is now better by percentage points. The message sent out, however, was even bigger. It seems like that when the Cs lost in L.A. on Christmas, that they kind of blew it off and said see what happens back at our crib. Now, they’ve fallen back on, “We’re the champs, man.” Not for long, K.G., not for long.

If the Lakers can beat you in your own house without Andrew Bynum, what do you expect to happen come June? That is if your squad even makes it through Prince James (Kobe’s the reigning MVP, which makes him King).

It was nice to see Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol go a little Marshawn Lynch and pull out “Beast Mode” on Gang Green. About time, El Spaniard and L.O.! Especially after you two were Charmin soft during last year’s Finals. Nice to see Josh Powell get big minutes, too. J-Peezy doesn’t seem like the type of cat who backs down from a challenge. After all, he’ll challenge you to a Guitar Hero duel on YouTube.

Overall, I’m just happy that our boys still remember the sour taste of that 131-92 Game 6 loss. You know, what it felt like to trudge off the court after getting spanked, while your arch rival celebrated another championship at your expense. We can’t forget any of that. So far we haven’t.
