What part of “crown our ass” didn’t some of you understand? This Los Angeles Lakers team found themselves during Wednesday’s Game Five win. Everybody couldn’t see it yet, though. After the Lake Show’s Game Six trouncing of the Nuggets? Yeah, everybody sees it now. Magic Johnson echoed what I said 48 hours ago in his post-game comments last night, (paraphrasing) “nobody can beat the Lakers when they play like this.” That’s the thing — the Lakers will continue to play like this. Remember that point in The Matrix where Neo believes he’s unstoppable? Well, the 2009 Lakers have reached that [...]
Crown Our Ass: Lakers Became NBA Champs Last Night
I hate to be a premature prognosticator, but David Stern should just go ahead and crown our ass; the Los Angeles Lakers will be your 2009 NBA Champions. How do I figure? 1. The Magic have the Cavs on the ropes. The Magic. A team that struggled against a depleted Celtics team that needed seven games and 129 overtime periods to sneak by the 41-41 Bulls. I think it’s safe to say that either the Lakers or Nuggets would handle Dwight Howard and Co. with relative ease. 2. If the Magic do win the Eastern Conference Finals, and they lead [...]
The latest from the Kobe-LeBron commercial series from Nike Basketball. This one features a one-on-one game. Pretty funny stuff. Gotta love the decor symbolism at the end with a snake and a lion as well. Enjoy!
Shannon Brown “Stays In The Game,” Helps Lakers Win It
Shannon Brown was incredible tonight, the City of Angels hasn’t loved a Shannon so much since Shannon Elizabeth played Nadia. He was unquestionably the spark that ignited both the Lakers and the Staples Center in the second half. He’s definitely a crowd favorite. Check out Shannon talking about his performance and how he stays in the game despite his inconsistent minutes…
Star Trek. Terminator Salvation. Land of the Lost. Transformers 2. All great special effects. Hollywood’s best special effect of the summer? This video of Sasha Vujacic hitting a three, which can’t be real. Impressive. Doesn’t even look like CGI. Got every strand of hair in there even.
The NBA League Office is Ruining Basketball
“I just fell on my face for no reason,” Kobe Bryant said. “I’m a klutz.” This in response to an obvious missed tripping call. Upon replay, it became arguably certain that the Nuggets’ Dahntay Jones intentionally tripped LA’s biggest superstar. After the game, Lakers coach Phil Jackson complained about the poor refereeing that we’ve seen in these playoffs. It seems, from most coverage, that we’ve experienced a higher than usual number of bad or missed calls this post season. Further, it seems like next-day-refereeing is becoming the standard method of making up for mistakes. I can think of three missed [...]
Trevor Ariza Helps Lakers Steal Game From Nuggets…Again
I’m on a mini-vacay over the Holiday, but I wanted to chime in real quick and drop this video in a post. Trevor Ariza, aka the Dominican Dunker, did it again with another late-game steal. Kobe Bryant was also incredible, pouring in 41 points despite playing 41 minutes in his fourth game in seven nights, in the mile-high atmosphere and against a handful of defenders and constant double teams. With all apologies to LeBron James… M-V-P! M-V-P! M-V-P! This is the kind of win that ultimately leads to a championship. Go Lakers!
10 Things That Need to Happen for the Lakers to Win Tonight: 10. No Sasha Vujacic. 9. Less Luke Walton. 8. More Shannon Brown. 7. Did I mention less Sasha Vujacic? 6. Derek Fisher must play less, shoot less. 5. Lamar Odom must play more, handle the ball more, be more aggressive. 4. L.O. and Trevor Ariza must continue to make the Nuggets pay for putting Carmelo Anthony on Kobe Bryant. 3. No more uncontested Kenyon Martin and Nene dunks. That’s mainly on Pau Gasol. On the other end, Pau must make them and the Birdman pay by hitting his [...]
An Open Letter From A Laker Fan to Sasha Vujacic
I’d like to preface this by saying that I am going to take a lot of heat for this post. My fiancee is a HUGE Sasha fan, and I’d be sleeping on the couch if she knew I wrote this. Mr. “Machine”- I hope this message finds you in good health and good spirits. I’m confident that your $15 million contract is affording you the lavish lifestyle you feel you deserve. On to more pressing matters… What the hell are you doing, man? Seriously! From a fan’s perspective, you seem completely useless on the court. Whenever you come into a [...]
(hat tip: NESW Sports) Also, check out these Stars of Staples captions from the World of Isaac, and these pics of Drew Barrymore getting drunk off her ass at the game from Steady Burn. Might be good for a chuckle or two, and today we need all the laughs we can get.
