10 Things I Hate About You: Houston Rockets

AUTHOR: | IN: 10 Things, Features, Gameday, NBA | COMMENTS: 12 Comments

10 Things I Hate About the Houston Rockets… 10. That I actually like seeing Dikembe Mutombo’s reaction on the bench when the Rockets make a nice play. 9. That milk-drinker/do-gooder Shane Battier looks like a pug and saves kittens out of trees. He’s the kind of guy every girl’s old man wants them to bring home. I despise that. Freakin’ boy scout. 8. There is no reason for anyone ever to wear a red bowtie and sports coat, Aaron Brooks. Unless you are calling the shots at Barnum and Bailey or chatting with Chairy. Brooks also looks like a pygmy [...]

The Uninspired Lakers Need a Movie-Night

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s pretty obvious the Lakers are the best the team in the west. The guys have the most talent, the deepest roster, and the most experience. They should be winning, shouldn’t they? Contrary to the popular opinion, I don’t believe they lack the “killer instinct” that everyone talks about. This is a team that has Kobe Bryant. Complain all you want about him playing dirty, spouting off at the mouth too much, blaming teammates, etc. If anything, the man has too much killer instinct. I think the real issue here is inspiration. When a team expects to win, where do [...]

Phil Jackson Drops F-Bomb

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, NBA, Phil Jackson, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

Good to see that I wasn’t the only one dropping F-bombs after the Lakers’ latest loss. Check out Phil Jackson’s slip from yesterday’s Lakers-Rockets post-game press conference. He’s right; Aaron Brooks did put on a helluva show yesterday. Shane Battier, too. (hat tip: Total Pro Sports)

Breaking: Rockets’ Yao Ming Hurt, Out For Playoffs

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Lakers, NBA, News & Rumors, Playoffs | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Update: The NBA has now confirmed this report. John Schuhmann, NBA.com writer, just tweeted that Yao Ming is out for the rest of the NBA Playoffs. Yao-ch! Houston, you have a problem. From his Twitter feed: Yao has small hairline fracture in left foot, Rockets just announced. Out for Playoffs. Bad news for Yao and Rockets fans, but good news for our Lakers. LSL wishes Yao a speedy recovery and says bring on the Nuggets! I think we can eliminate Houston in five games now for sure, so let’s hope the Mavs can win game four at home and extend [...]

PPG: Jordan Farmar’s Hustle Sets Game 3 Tone For Lakers

AUTHOR: | IN: Kobe, Lakers, NBA, Phil Jackson, Playoffs, Purple Post Game | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

48 hours ago Derek Fisher set the tone with his toughness. Tonight, his replacement, Jordan Farmar, made one. He didn’t make it with his 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds two steals and a block either. The player the Lakers have affectionately dubbed Little Pro — D-Fish is Big Pro — made his statement with hustle. When you outhustle Aaron Burks — the quickest little wolf in a scrappy pack — you want it. What does Farmar want? He wants to be on the floor, sure, but he wants to win a championship more. The haters can hate, but tonight [...]

Fan Review: Ron Artest’s Flagrant Foul On Pau Gasol (Video)

AUTHOR: | IN: Kobe, Lakers, NBA, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

I say it shouldn’t be a flagrant foul. Kobe Bryant says the same. Maybe a flagrant 1 foul, but not a 2. I’m an 80s kid, too, so I say let ‘em play. Don’t wanna give the Houston Rockets any excuses. You decide, Lakers fans; was Ron Artest’s foul on Pau Gasol a flagrant 2 foul?

Kobe Bryant’s 30-Foot Third-Quarter Buzzer Beater (Video)

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Kobe, Lakers, NBA, Videos | COMMENTS: None Yet

Just when I tweeted that my boy the Black Mamba was playing like a garden snake, he comes back and hits one of his best shots ever. Kobe Bryant, you are the master. If you are Ron Artest, Shane Battier and the Rockets, what do you do? There is simply no way to stop this guy.

The NBA’s Marketing Team Excels At Special Effects, Ruining Days

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, NBA, Videos | COMMENTS: None Yet

Via Rip City Project, we get to relive the amazing play from 2000 that stunned the entire city of Portland. Sometimes, we fans need to get a little lift before a tough game. Consider this yours (unless you’re a Portland fan… if so, I highly recommend not watching). I swear, the NBA hires the best special effects guys to work on their stuff- this looks absolutely brilliant.

10 Things: Lakers-Rockets Game 3

AUTHOR: | IN: Features, Gameday, Kobe, Lakers, NBA, Phil Jackson, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here are the 10 things I’ll be watching during tonight’s Lakers-Rockets Game 3: 10. How much burn will Andrew Bynum get tonight? 10 minutes? 15? 20? Less than 10? Diaper Drew might be stuck in the playpen for the rest of this series. 9. Will we see the small-ball line-up of Jordan Farmar at the point, Shannon Brown at the two, Sasha Vujacic at the three and Lamar Odom at the four again? Presumably in the second quarter? 8. How many shots will Kobe Bryant take? He’s been more assassin than facilitator so far this series, and that trend will [...]

Update: Fisher Suspended One Game, Kobe Gets Flagrant 1

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Kobe, Lakers, NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

NBA Basketball Operations Vice President Stu Jackson announced today that Derek Fisher would serve a one-game suspension for lowering his shoulder while committing a hard foul against Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola. Jackson also announced Kobe Bryant had been assessed a flagrant 1 foul for the elbow to Ron Artest’s neck that sparked the heated exchange of words and ultimately Artest’s ejection. Source: NBA.com
