Tiger Woods Reportedly Mentions Purchasing Wife a “Kobe Special”

AUTHOR: | IN: Babes, Kobe | COMMENTS: None Yet

According to TMZ.com, the worlds most trusted news source, Tiger Woods mentioned to a “friend” that he needed to go out and purchase a “Kobe Special” after an extremely mysterious accident this week. Of course the insinuation is that Tiger was unfaithful to his wife in some way and needed to purchase a ring like the one Kobe bought his wife after his admitted infidelity in the Colorado scandal. Regardless of whether or not Tiger said anything of the sorts, it’s at least somewhat humorous to know that 6 years after it happened, Kobe’s $4 million gift is still resonating [...]

No Easy Buckets: Farmar rejects Alston (Video)

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Videos | COMMENTS: None Yet

When you’re the champs you have to show up and play like champions every night. With the Brooklyn New Jersey Nets visiting Staples Center, the Lakers needed to send a message. No disrespect to New Jeruz, but if there is any serious chance at 70 wins for this Laker squad then teams with 0-16 records must go down and they must go down hard. Jordan Farmar showed a champions effort when he made sure Rafer Alston knew there are no easy buckets to be found in Downtown L.A. Keep trying Skip, you’re about as close to winning a title in [...]

Top 5 Dunks: The Shannon Brown Show

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Shannon Brown, Videos | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

We’re not even ¼ of the way through the NBA season and Shannon Brown has already put together enough backboard shakers to have seismologists tracking his whereabouts. Brown is doing more than moving needles at Cal Tech. He’s also moving a lot of butts out of seats in NBA arenas. Before we commence the show, let’s first give some props to Mitch Kupchak. I’ll be the first to admit that when GM Mitch traded Caron Butler for Kwame Brown, then inked Valdimir Radmanovic for $30-mil, I was nervous that Kupchak was sharing more than just Staples Center with Elgin Baylor. [...]

Lakers down Pistons; Kobe downs a C-Note of 40’s

AUTHOR: | IN: 40 Point Games, Kobe, Lakers, Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

In plain Olde English, The Lakers finally shook off their second half jet lag with a 106-93 victory over the Pistons. After taking the final 24 minutes off in Denver and back home against Houston, Phil Jackson got a solid effort out of his squad for a good 3 and a half quarters. The Lake Show took an early curtain call, squandering a lead that got as high as 28 points. That nose dive was enough for PJ to put KB24 in for the end of the 4th quarter. As fate would have it, Kobe drilled a three as the [...]

Video: Lakers Present Trevor Ariza with Championship Ring

AUTHOR: | IN: Gameday, Lakers, Videos | COMMENTS: None Yet

There is a reason why the Los Angeles Lakers are the (purple and) gold standard of all organizations in sports. On Sunday night, the Lakers proved again why they’re Kareem Abdul-Jabbar standing on Andrew Bynum’s shoulders above the rest. Before the Rockets and Lakers tipped off at Staples Center, former Laker Trevor Ariza was presented with his championship ring from last season. In addition to the video tribute that played on the scoreboard, Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher greeted Ariza and his son with the ring in hand. Given the off-season contract drama and the unavoidable storylines between Ron Artest [...]

Groundhog Day at Staples as Lakers blowout Suns

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was Bizarro Groundhog Day for Alvin Gentry in Staples Center last night. Sometimes things change just enough to remain the same. Let me make some sense out of that conundrum. Gentry’s Suns were run off the court by the Lakers in a 121-102 blowout. Losing in Los Angeles is nothing new for the former head coach of the Clippers. Losing in Staples with Lamar Odom on the floor is an old habit for Gentry as well. The difference this time was that L.O. was wearing purple and gold instead of Clipper red, white and blue. Usually, when a Laker [...]

Byron Scott Fired As Hornets Coach – Possible Future With Lakers?

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Kurt Rambis, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Sure I’m suggesting the future with the Lakers as complete speculation, but come on- wouldn’t that just warm your heart? (Via latimes.com) Byron Scott, 2008 NBA coach of the year, was fired and replaced by Hornets GM Jeff Bower. The Hornets are 3-6 to start the season with a team that was largely dismantled and rebuilt in the past year. We at the Lake Show can only hope that Mitch Kupchak decides to fill in the vacancy left by Kurt Rambis when he departed for Minnesota at the start of the season.

Mbenga’s mBlocks May Subside mBecause mBynum’s mBack

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Breaking News, Injuries, Lakers, Lakers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The LA Times is reporting that Andrew Bynum is planning on playing in the Lakers next matchup on Thursday against the Phoenix Suns.  This will push DJ Mbenga back to his spot on the bench after an extremely good showing over a two-game span as the lone 7-footer on the floor.  Lamar Odom is 6’10″ for those of you who are counting. Pau Gasol is still a complete unknown.  Pau was quoted as saying, “Every time I put a timetable in my mind, I get disappointed, so I can’t afford that any more,” he said. “It’s a matter of time [...]

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Being Treated for Leukemia

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Kareem, Lakers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

It is with cautious optimism that I post this- one of the all-time greats of the entire sport of basketball has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Kareem has announced that he has Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, or CML for short.  It is a cancer that affects the white blood cells.  The bad news: Kareem has cancer.  The good news: This is one of the more treatable varieties and he has been told he’ll live his life in essentially the same way he used to  (aside from popping pills, of course). Much like Magic Johnson did with HIV, Kareem [...]

Sasha Vujacic and Maria Sharipova Blah Blah Blah

AUTHOR: | IN: Babes, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Another Laker has fallen for a celebrity- Sasha Vujacic was recently photographed holding hands with Maria Sharipova.  I can’t bring myself to waste this space with the photo, so go to TMZ if you want to see it. Sasha: Dating someone famous won’t get you more minutes.  I hope I’m not the first one to tell you that.  Alternate suggestion: Drain 3′s, defend without fouling, and don’t try to dribble when it’s not your role.  That’s what the fans want from you (or… at least raise your profile enough to be worth more when you are inevitably traded).
