Lakers down Pistons; Kobe downs a C-Note of 40’s
In plain Olde English, The Lakers finally shook off their second half jet lag with a 106-93 victory over the Pistons. After taking the final 24 minutes off in Denver and back home against Houston, Phil Jackson got a solid effort out of his squad for a good 3 and a half quarters.
The Lake Show took an early curtain call, squandering a lead that got as high as 28 points. That nose dive was enough for PJ to put KB24 in for the end of the 4th quarter.
As fate would have it, Kobe drilled a three as the shot clock expired with only 19 seconds left in the contest. It was a bomb from far enough away that he would have landed in Jack Nicholson’s lap if Frank Costello was in his usual seat for the game.
That seemingly meaningless shot would be the King Cobra’s 40th point of the night making it an even 100 times he’s dropped a Shawn Kemp in his NBA career.
Having already poured in 40 a symmetrical 4 times this year, Bryant is now third all-time behind only His Airness (173) and The Big Dipper’s untouchable total of 271. You’d have to be on your Crazy Horse to think Bryant has a shot at Chamberlain. Jordan is a real possibility, though.
Props to the Lakers for a solid effort on both ends despite the late lapse.
Much respect to Kobe Bryant for yet another remarkable accomplishment of what has already been an unbelievable career. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
For good measure, 2 of those 40 points came in MJ fashion with this circus shot over former Laker Kwame Brown. This move was a smooth as Billy Dee and like Colt 45, Kobe works every time.
