Lakers need to play like its 2000

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

We’ve been down this path before. Just like Trinity told Neo, we too know exactly where this road ends. As Laker fans we’ve encountered this scenario almost 10 years ago to the day. Quick, call up John Cusack and tell him fire up the hot tub. We’re going back to 2000! Back then, the Lake Show was a finely tuned war machine being led by first year coach Phil Jackson. PJ’s Zen approach awoke the slumbering beast and the seeds of a budding dynasty were sewn. A funny thing happened on the way to the first of three titles. The [...]

Off-Day Links — Your Laker Fix

AUTHOR: | IN: Links, Phil Jackson, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

We can’t be the only one’s struggling to decide who to root for in the Cavs-Celtics series, can we?  Talk about picking your poison! On to the links… LakeShowLife.com had a chance to ask NBA Analyst Mike Fratello a question about the Lakers’ future dominance of the western conference.  His answer is not what we wanted to hear.  Let’s hope he’s wrong. The most awkward 16 seconds of video you’ll watch today: Pau Gasol attempting to teach spanish to Lamar Odom. Jerry West’s legendary 200-foot shot.  Maybe not that far, but damn close. Two stories came out today about Phil [...]

Will the Real Los Angeles Lakers Please Stand Up?

AUTHOR: | IN: Kobe, Lakers, NBA, Playoffs, The Kobe Beef | COMMENTS: None Yet

It was recently announced that Kobe Bryant’s jersey is the top-seller in all of the NBA.  Further, the Lakers sell more merchandise than any other team.  Pau Gasol’s jersey is in the top 15 sellers as well. What does this mean?  There are a lot of confused Laker fans out there. You have to be confused if you are a Laker fan.  You have to wonder what team will show up each game.  You’re curious to see if Kobe plays like Michael Jordan, Steve Nash, or Kwame Brown.  You look at the Thunder and see an easy first-round opponent.  Then [...]

Kobe isn’t helping, Lakers lucky Game 7 is in Los Angeles – Video Highlights of Game 4

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hey Sports Fans! I’d like to introduce myself with my first ever post on Lake Show Life. I’m Coach Nick and I offer my observations from a coach’s standpoint, breaking down the Lakers games in a way they won’t show you on TNT, ESPN, or ABC. I’m also a triangle offense guru, having coached it in high school (Jordan Farmar played for me for 2 years). I am also friends with Tex Winter and we’ve spent hours going over the fundamentals of the game as well as his storied offense. In this video breakdown, you’ll see the dangers of letting [...]

Lakers go from champs to chumps in Oklahoma City

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Playoffs, Recaps | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

For the better part of three quarters the Los Angeles Lakers looked like something that resembled a championship caliber team. The Lake Show jumped out quick and brought the Thunder to Oklahoma City’s first ever NBA playoff game. A 10-0 start had Kevin Durant hanging his head in shame as he bricked 8 of his first 9 from the field. If you look close enough, you can see the quit on Durant’s face after Ron Ron picks his pocket early in the contest. Give the Thunder credit. They could have just rolled over and taken it on the chin. But [...]

Kobe makes Pops proud

AUTHOR: | IN: Kobe, Lakers, Playoffs | COMMENTS: None Yet

We could spend all day talking about the Lakers taking a 2-0 series lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder after their 95-92 flirtation with disaster inside Staples Center last night. We could ramble on about Phil Jackson being 33-0 when his teams are ahead 2-0 in a playoff series. We could dissect Andrew Bynum’s disappearing act in the second half, lampoon another Lakers second quarter defensive collapse or even praise Pau Gasol for his first All-Star performance of the postseason. However, as it usually goes when discussing the Purple and Gold, we’re going to dedicate a little more bandwidth to [...]

Lakers must make short work of Thunder

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Playoffs, Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

One game into the best of seven series against Oklahoma City and the Lakers have already exposed the Thunder as the young and inexperienced team we all knew they were. However, that was a given. As we’ve learned over the course of the season, the Lakers putting forth the effort of a champion isn’t always given. For this series to go beyond five games would be due directly to the Lakers and their inability to remain focused. OKC is a young squad with all kinds of talent on the roster. But we saw their limitations surface in the first quarter [...]
