In Game 5 of the Lakers vs. Suns, we’ll examine how the Lakers are attempting to stop the Pick & Roll and what adjustments are not working. This also serves to illustrate just how good Steve Nash is at executing their vaunted offense.
Redemption Ron: Artest Buzzer Beater Beats Suns
Welcome to Lakers folklore, Ron Artest! Ron Ron entered the permanent memory of the Purple and Gold faithful by sunning the Phoenix Suns, 103-101 as the Lakers took a pivotal win in game five of the Western Finals. 3-2, advantage Lakers could have easily been the opposite heading back to the Arizona Desert. Artest went from villain to hero in Infamous fashion like that Mobb from his native Queens Bridge in the last minute of the fourth quarter. With a lead and the clock in the Lake Show corner, Artest attempted to author a meltdown of Chris Webber proportions. Two rapid fire misses from [...]
The Lakers defense keeps getting worse from game to game. In the first two games of the series, they gave up a lot of points too, and now that the zone has limited the Lakers slightly, they’re in for a real fight.
Because We’re Suckers For Boston-Hating
It’s Always Sunny in Detroit did us the favor of compiling a list of five reasons to hate the Celtics. I like to think of it as five MORE reasons to hate the Celtics. Still not sure how I want the Boston-Orlando series to pan out. Other links: ESPN Los Angeles game five preview Turns out Kobe is the second best closer in the game (82games.com) Take another look at the box score from game 4. You’ll notice that the Lakers had 45 field goals, 9 of which where 3′s. That equates to 99 points. The Suns had 41 field [...]
Lakers get outbenched by Suns in Game 4
Coming into the Western Conference Finals there was one clear cut advantage the Phoenix Suns had over the reigning NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers – the bench. It wasn’t until the Suns returned to Phoenix that their vaunted bench would rise from the ashes like Channing Frye’s jumper. Frye was suffering from a severe cash of John Starks Syndrome until he found his stroke in the second quarter. Seeing the ball actually pass through the hoop boosted Frye’s confidence and energized the home crowd. Phoenix went on to hang 41 points on the board in a second quarter that would [...]
The Suns stunned the Lakers last night in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. Their bench exploded for 54 points, but the real key is the Lakers Triangle versus the Suns 2-3 Zone. Coach Nick will show you the problems the Lakers are running into, and also reveal the Secret strategy that will win the series for the Suns.
Los Angeles or bust for Phil Jackson
Since there are only three NBA teams left standing (Orlando is alive only in a George Romero movie kind of way), there are more than a fare share of bored fanbases pondering the prospects of next season. In fact, if you didn’t actually follow the game, you’d assume the season had concluded already. Funny thing is that an NBA Champion still has yet to be crowned. Unless, of course, you were among the countless media drones who anointed the Cleveland Cavaliers champions way back in December. How’d that workout? Go ahead, ignore the conference finals and submerge yourselves in the LeBron futures market. [...]
Suns Zone Bends The Lakers Triangle – Kobe Can’t Carry ‘Em in Game 3: 2010 NBA Playoffs Recap
Kobe’s monster game couldn’t overcome Stoudemire’s moves and Robin Lopez toughness. The Suns have started to crawl back into this series, and we’ll show you what can get them another step closer to making this a real competitive series.
Amar’e Stoudemire, Suns have a lucky Game 3
I’m got giving Amar’e Stoudemire any hype right now; he had a lucky game in Game 3. Does that quote sound familiar? Don’t let Stoudemire’s 42 point, 11 rebound effort in the Suns 118-109 victory fool you. Game 3 was all about what the Lakers didn’t do and had nothing to do with what the Suns actually did – besides getting lucky. Considering the Suns starters were a combined +77 and the Lakers starting five netted a putrid -41 yet still, somehow, the game was up for grabs with 5 minutes left to play is about all you need know [...]
