Lakers, Shannon Brown Agree to New Deal

The more things change the more they stay the same. Sure, Shannon Brown might have been a free agent for a few weeks and according to his agent he was in “serious talks” with other teams. But after all the dust settled, he’s right back where he started.

According to Mark Bartelstein, Brown’s agent, his client has come to terms on a new two-year contract, keeping the fan favorite in Purple and Gold for the run at the three-peat.

The terms of the deal state that Brown is to be compensated to the tune of $4.6-million over the next two seasons with a player option for the second year of the deal.

Does that sound familiar?

It should since Brown just opted out of the second year of his last two-year contract with the Lakers, a contract that would have paid him $2.15-million this season. Instead, Brown gets a slight bump in pay and once again has the chance to opt out in hopes of getting another new two-year deal with a player option after next season.

Like I said, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

What has yet to change is Sasha Vujacic’s place of employment. Rumors spread that Mitch Kupchak was looking to deal Sasha’s dead weight contract in order to free up more cash to re-sign Shannon.

So after it is all said and done, Shannon got a slight raise and Sasha still has a chance to lose even more PT in the upcoming season.
