Out of Sync Lakers Go Down the Drain in Memphis

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

After watching the Lakers drop their third straight thanks to a 98-96 loss in Memphis a few things became crystal clear. In fact, it’s at the point now where you can just go down a check list of things that go wrong in Lake Show losses. Let’s see… Come out of the locker room with little to no energy to start the second half. Check. The Lakers were outscored 19-16 in a lackluster third frame. Allow easy dribble penetration by a quick point guard who gets easy layups thanks to there not being an Andrew Bynum type presence in the middle. [...]

Ron Artest Still Lost in the Triangle

AUTHOR: | IN: Ron Artest | COMMENTS: None Yet

Phil Jackson is well known for his attachment to the Triangle Offense and Ron Artest is becoming famous for being lost in it. For Ron, it might as well be the Bermuda Triangle Offense. Picking up right where he left off in the playoffs, Ron looks as clueless on the court as Erik Spoelstra does on the sideline. This past Sunday, Ron’s reluctance resurfaced as he gave up an open look in the corner and instead passed up the opportunity to try and tie the game. While that doesn’t illustrate his offensive confusion his declining numbers sure do. Offensively, Ron [...]

Pau Gasol Feeling the Weight of the Luxury Tax

AUTHOR: | IN: Pau Gasol | COMMENTS: None Yet

Some things are just universal. No matter what line of work you’re in, chances are your place of employment is understaffed and you’re overworked. Well, if it makes you feel any better, Pau Gasol knows your pain. Gasol in November looks a lot like the Pau we saw in Game 7 back in June – gassed. With Andrew Bynum’s ever expanding timetable for return and Theo Ratliff recovering from knee surgery, Gasol is playing big minutes. Last night might have been the most frustrating moment of the young season as Phil Jackson pushed Pau to a ridiculous 45 minutes of [...]

Lakers Lacking Effort in Loss to Pacers

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Indiana Pacers are partying like it’s 1999. That year would be the last time a Pacer team won a game against the Lakers in the city of Los Angeles. Confounding the disastrous 95-92 Lake Show loss was the fact that this also marked the first time the Pacers have ever won in Staples Center. A listless first half eventually gave way to desperation late. Much like Friday’s game in Utah, the Lakers did a lot of standing around and watching Kobe Bryant operate. Sensing the game was getting away, Mamba manned up in the third and tried to take [...]

Barnes and Blake Bare the Brunt of the Blame: Lakers at Jazz – 11.26.2010

AUTHOR: | IN: Lakers, Los Angeles, NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Coach Nick shows you how important it is to have your bench make positive contributions when on the road in a hostile atmosphere. The Lakers had no answer for Deron Williams on either side of the court, as Jerry Sloan put him at 2 guard down the stretch and he was simply too much for the Lakers to handle.

Kobe Not Enough to Closeout Jazz

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

After it is all said and done, the Lakers will look back at their 102-96 loss in Utah knowing it could have easily been a win. A game that was promised to have a playoff feel lived up to the hype. This one had all the drama you’d expect to see in the NBA come June. The Jazz overcoming a hot Lake Show early. Kobe Bryant hitting clutch shot after clutch shot late. A controversial malfunctioning shot clock. It was all there. Only thing missing was the playoff logo on the EnergySolutions court.

Phil Jackson: Master of the Backhanded Apology

AUTHOR: | IN: Phil Jackson | COMMENTS: None Yet

Remember when Phil Jackson ripped off his infamous Brokeback comment? Then remember how he later apologized? Well, to quote the infamous Kenny Red, “Same suit just reheated.” After setting off another fire storm of contrived controversy for speculation on Erik Spoelstra’s job security, PJ again backpedaled in classic Jackson fashion. First and foremost, Phil expressed his regret for stating the obvious state of affairs in Miami.  ”It was an off-handed remark about if things continue to go poorly for Miami, what might happen.” “I’m not throwing any aspersions on Spoelstra. He’s a very fine young coach.” Then, he offered Stan [...]

Lakers Prep for Playoff Test in Utah

AUTHOR: | IN: Preview | COMMENTS: None Yet

After cruising through a schedule softer than an Erik Spoelstra practice session, the Lakers are finally getting a taste of tougher competition. Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Lake Show was given its toughest test to date by the Chicago Bulls. That game had a very distinct playoff feel to it. Tonight will be more of the same as the Lakers visit their longtime rivals the Utah Jazz. Known as one of the most difficult buildings to play in, EnergySolutions Arena hasn’t been as tough a test for the NBA’s best. The Jazz are 5-3 at home with two of [...]
