Bynum Great as Laker Streak Hits Eight

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

Maybe all those tears being shed in South Beach are in anticipation of the pain Andrew Bynum will be bringing to town in two days time. The Altered Beast is on the loose. Since the All-Star break the Lakers haven’t lost and a lot of that credit goes to the inspired play of Bynum. Tonight in Atlanta Drew continued his stellar play with another dominating performance. These days Bynum owns the paint like Charlie Sheen owns the headlines. Though Sheen boasts of tiger blood, Drew might just have acid coursing through his veins with the way the opposition is avoiding [...]

Lakers Do Spurs Like Spurs Did Heat

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Two days ago the San Antonio Spurs handed the Miami Heat a thirty point thrashing. Two days later the Los Angeles Lakers gave the Spurs a taste of their own medicine with a never close contest that saw the Lakers open up a 32 point lead in the third. And in just over two days from now the Lake Show makes a stop in Miami. But that is looking too far ahead. Let’s just talk about today. Let’s talk about the two-time defending World Champs looking every bit the part of a team poised to three-peat. Let’s talk about the [...]

Lakers Tame Bobcats

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

We knew it was going to take an inspired effort to beat the Bobcats. For whatever reason they’ve owned the Lakers. What we didn’t expect was the price the Lake Show would have to pay to reverse the Charlotte curse. This wasn’t a thing of beauty. But in the end the Lakers held off Charlotte and finally tamed the Bobcats to the tune of 92-84. The headline is the how the Lakers finally executed from start to finish against their most puzzling opponent. But the unfolding story is the health of Derek Fisher. It cost the Lakers an arm to [...]

Devin Ebanks Out with Stress Fracture

AUTHOR: | IN: Injuries | COMMENTS: None Yet

As if planned by the Gods of Hoops, just as Matt Barnes returns from injury Devin Ebanks goes out. The Lakers have announced that Ebanks will miss at least three weeks due to a stress fracture in his left tibia. The rookie was averaging 3 points and 1 board in the 20 games he’s appeared in. Though it stood to reason he would be off the active roster once Barnes was back it still is a setback for a player striving to define his role in the NBA. Knowing how these things go, Ebanks will likely be out for more [...]

Matt Barnes Practices, Hopes to Play Against Charlotte

AUTHOR: | IN: Matt Barnes | COMMENTS: None Yet

Finally healthy enough to fully participate in practice, Matt Barnes could make his return tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats. Good news for the Lakers who need all the help they can get against the team they just can’t seem to beat. Having been cleared by the medical staff, the decision to play Barnes now lies in the hands of Phil Jackson. Barnes has been campaigning to play for over a week now and PJ seems likely to give him a few minutes of burn in the very near future. “Matt was all right today. We’ll obviously check and see how [...]

Bobcats are Measuring Stick for Lakers

AUTHOR: | IN: Preview | COMMENTS: None Yet

Forget about the Spurs and their league best 50 wins. Who cares about the Threeatles or whatever they’re called in South Beach? Let’s not even talk about the Boston Geezers. The only true test of how well the Lakers have been playing recently is…the Charlotte Bobcats.  That’s right Laker fans. Watch if you dare. Tomorrow night those impossible to beat Bobcats make an appearance at Staples Center. On the line are a 5-game win streak and a whole lot of Laker pride. Why can’t the Lakers beat this team? Coaches, players…heck even the ownerships has changed. What hasn’t changed is [...]

Lakers Should Pursue Corey Brewer

AUTHOR: | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

By the time this post his the interweb chances are Corey Brewer will have been snatched up by the Spurs or the Celtics or some other team that already has an embarrassment of riches. Too bad the Lakers aren’t among any of the interested parties. In the here and now, Brewer would add nothing to the quest to three-peat. Nor would he see much time on the court with a logjam at the 3 position once Matt Barnes is back up to speed. In addition, adding players this late in the season and asking them to dive right in and [...]

Lakers Wear Down Wolves

AUTHOR: | IN: Recaps | COMMENTS: None Yet

They already lost to the worst team in the league. So it wouldn’t be too shocking if the Lakers slacked off and dropped one to the second worst team in the L. Early on it looked like déjà vu all over again as the Lake Show opened lethargic in Minnesota. Sloppy play allowed the T-Wolves to take a lead into the half and expand it in the third. Chalk it up to the turnover bug infecting the offense. That and some poor shot selection made for a frustrating night…until the Lakers hit that switch. This is becoming a welcome trend [...]
