Lakers Add Former UCSB Gaucho Greg Somogyi To Roster

UCSB stand up! Turns out the mighty Gauchos of Santa Barbara have more than just Orlando Johnson to boast of as far as NBA alums go. The Lakers recently added former Gaucho big man Greg Somogyi to their roster. And when I say big man…I mean BIG MAN.

Somogyi stands 7’3” and towers over everyone currently on the Lake Show roster. How long that remains the case is anybody’s guess.

Like Reeves Nelson, Somogyi’s path to the regular season roster is a long road at best. But having played on L.A.’s summer league team and getting a camp invite afterwards says something about what the front office thinks of Somogyi. Just don’t assume his Summer League affect was felt on the stat sheet though. Somogyi averaged just one point and fewer than two boards a game. Odds are the Lakers are looking for some size during preseason scrimmages and nothing more.
