21 and counting. That’s how many former Lakers you’ll find enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame with the 21st being Jamaal Wilkes. Last night Wilkes joined former greats Reggie Miller, Ralph Sampson and Don Nelson among others as the members of the 2012 class.
For Wilkes and the many accomplishments throughout his career this honor must feel like validation. Having played for some of the most iconic coaches in the history of the game not to mention some of the most historic hoops institutions, Wilkes was already a member of basketball royalty. The former UCLA Bruin was also a winner at every level.
Of course the real prestige will come later this year when the Lakers retire Wilkes’ #52. As humbling as the Hall of Fame is there is none more exclusive club than having your Purple and Gold jersey hung from the rafters.
