Rockets mulling offering Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik for Dwight Howard

This weekend was a crazy one for Lakers fans. First, reports came out that the Lakers weren’t willing to sign and trade Dwight Howard. One day later, more reports came out the the Clippers were prepared to offer Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe for Howard after July 1st.

Now, Marc Stein reports the newest rumor. This time, the Rockets are considering an offer of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik for Dwight Howard.

The Lakers and Mitch Kupchak have let it be known that their first interest this summer is to resign Dwight. And while they’ve reportedly shot down the idea of a sign and trade, you have to think that is a leverage ploy to keep Dwight from negotiating with other teams. The ultimate goal is to have the maximum amount of cap room for the 2014 season.

The problem for the Rockets is that, while Lin and Harden will only make $5.25 million each next season, they’re each set to make $14.8 million in the 2014 season.
What do you think Lakers fans? Would you like to see Asik and Lin in purple and gold?

This trade proposal makes my stomach turn.

I let Dwight walk if that is what Houston has in mind in S&T.

I’ll take Blake Griffin & Eric Bledsoe over Jeremy Lin & Omar Asik anyday of the week, and twice on Sundays!!

  • Lin & D’antoni

So excited just to think about Lin and coach D’Antoni working together in the coming season~~ I am happy because all I do is lin lin lin no matter what~~~

The Lakers should take the trade. Lin and Omer are still developing and they are valuable team players who can definitely contribute to the Lakers

Asik is an overpaid center that is 1/10 the player of Howard. I think he actually shoots worse than Dwight and I thought that was impossible.

Lin is nice but also overpaid.

Lakers are better letting Dwight walk to Houston than take anything back from them.

      • OC

Asik has a 3 year $25m contract. That is a bargain in today’s NBA, for a center with his stats.

        • Fern Rea

Bargain? Not for a team that will be searching for a new centerpiece of their team. $8 mill clogs too much of their salary cap space for a player that can make a real impact.

Asik is a nice piece to add to a team that has established star offensive players, like a OKC or Miami.

If Dwight leaves, Asik is not good enough to have on the roster and build around at that $8 million dollar price tag.

Kobe wont allow the Lakers to think of 2014 if it meansthey cannotbe competitive in 2013. Its as simple as that. So needs to be traded for someone.
