3. Athleticism

If the Lakers are interested in using D’Antoni’s “7 seconds or less” offense, they’ll have to search for some younger and more athletic perimeter players. Right now, Metta World Peace, Kobe Bryant, and Steve Nash are not athletic, nor are they young. They are experienced, veteran players but not the type of players suited to run and gun down the court.

Both Peyton Siva and Myck Kabongo are both athletic and young perimeter players. The unfortunate thing for the Lakers are that they are both raw players. Siva does not have much of a jump shot, but has quite possibly the biggest engine in the draft. He’s a solid defensive player and can get to the rim. Kabongo is a far more raw talent with far more potential. He was very inconsistent, but his flashes of greatness has scouts salivating.

The problem with both players is that the Lakers have a huge logjam at point guard. Nash, Steve Blake, Darius Morris, Chris Duhon, and Andrew Goudelock are all already on the roster. Adding Siva or Kabongo would further that logjam. The Lakers would have to unload some of those guys before they could look at one of these guys.
