UPDATE: Dave McMenamin came through with more news on the Lakers jerseys today. First, the specifics of when the Lakers would sport the new sleeved jerseys. The first certain date will be Christmas Day, when all teams competing will wear the sleeved jerseys. The Lakers will also wear the jerseys on “Noche Latina” nights, when the Lakers jerseys will also sport “Los Lakers” on the front.

The second, and possibly bigger news, is the addition of a new jersey next year. Aside from the gold, purple, and white jerseys, the Lakers will add a black jersey to their wardrobe closet. McMenamin describes the jersey,

"it will still say “Lakers” across the chest. The lettering and numerals will appear in purple with gold outlines and the rest of the jersey material will be primarily black, with some gold accents, the source said. It will not have sleeves, the source added."

The new jerseys will go along with the league’s city pride series, which has seen “Rip City” jerseys for Portland and, more recently, “Motor City” jerseys for the Pistons.

Last season, the Warriors sported the sleeved jerseys as a new style for the NBA. This summer, all the summer league teams wore them, showing what teams might look like. Since then, rumors have began accumulating that more and more teams would be wearing the jerseys, despite the fans disapproval. According to Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are to be included in that list.

The Lakers, as we stated, wore the jerseys during summer league play. It’s uncertain right now how many games and which ones the Lakers will wear the sleeved jerseys at.
