According to the Associated Press, Lakers starting power forward, Pau Gasol, has been named a spokesman for Madrid’s 2020 Olympic bid. If Madrid were to secure the bid as host of the 2020 Olympics, it would be their first time as a host. Here’s what the AP had to say:
“In a statement issued Tuesday, the committee says Gasol, one of Spain’s most well-known athletes and a two-time Olympic silver medalist, will address the International Olympic Committee during Madrid’s final presentation in Buenos Aires next month.
“Madrid is vying with Tokyo and Istanbul for the 2020 Summer Games, and the IOC will deliver its decision in Argentina on Sept. 7.”
For his career, Pau Gasol has averaged 18.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.6 blocks. Gasol set a career high in assists per game last season (4.4) with the Lakers. Pau has two championships, along with two silver Olympic medals.
