Magic Johnson, ESPN part ways

After a much criticized year as analyst on NBA Countdown with ESPN, Magic Johnson has told the sports mega-network that he won’t be returning.

Outside of NBA countdown, Magic spent time as an in-game broadcaster in both college and NBA games. Neither went over well with the fans, which certainly had at least a small part in today’s decision.

ESPN made a slew of changes to their NBA Countdown and broadcast crew, bringing in Doris Burke as an analyst as well as former coach Doug Collins, who will replace Mike Wilbon. Surprisingly, Bill Simmons was not one of those swapped out despite his apparent butting of heads on numerous occasions with ESPN and their policies.
