While basketball is a business first and foremost, it’s never easy to see a teammate go. When that teammate is someone as trusted and admired as Steve Blake, it makes it even tougher. Blake was dealt to the Golden State Warriors just hours before the team tipped-off against the Houston Rockets. Whether or not his abrupt departure effected the team or not, many Lakers turned to Twitter after the game to wish Blake the best.

This was a business decision. It’s about luxury tax. The season is over anyway, and Blake could be back in purple and gold next season if the FO wants to go that direction. This is the part of the NBA that coaches, fans, and players don’t like, but this is a business. No team is going to pay millions in taxes and penalties if they can avoid it, especially when they are rebuilding.
