Lakers to Trade Lottery Pick for Kevin Love?

The idea stemmed from Marc Stein’s blog post on ESPN.

"The suggestion is already in circulation that the Lakers will attempt to use their forthcoming high lottery pick in June to assemble the sort of trade package that finally convinces the Wolves to part with Love and end the uncertainty that hangs over this franchise even before the 25-year-old enters the final year of his contract."

While Kevin Love’s interest in going to Los Angeles has not been a secret, this certainly accelerates the process.  Other ideas to acquire Kevin Love through free agency were available only in 2015 or 2016, when his contract with the Timberwolves was up and when the Los Angeles Lakers have cap room.

If this trade is completed this summer, with whatever combination works to make it happen, Kobe Bryant gets a squad ready to compete for a championship.  Pau Gasol has been amidst trade rumors for years, but the interest from other teams acquiring him is slim.  They think of him has a large salary dump and a quality big man who can put in 20-30 minutes per game.

A combination of Kevin Love, Pau Gasol, and Kobe Bryant does give the Lakers an offensive trio to fight with, no matter who the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd options are on offense.
