With rumors of Pau Gasol being shut down for the season, it almost slid under the radar that his teammate Xavier Henry was shut down for the season today. Henry was battling ligament damage in his left wrist while also still trying to recover from the knee injury that sidelined him for a big chunk of the season.
While he never made it public, both injuries were causing Henry significant discomfort, which played a big factor in the decision to shut him down. While his surgeries were originally scheduled for the end of the season, Henry will likely go under the knife sooner now that he’s officially done.
Henry did express his desire to return to the Lakers this off-season. While it’s uncertain what the Lakers plans are, it’s hard to make a case against bringing back Henry, who was a dynamic and energetic player when healthy. The injuries could be a blessing in disguise as Henry’s price likely won’t be out of the Lakers range, meaning he’s more likely to come back next season.
Only time will tell, but fans will certainly appreciate the highlights X left us, none better than this one.
