Lakers, Carmelo meeting finish; Kobe meeting tonight

The Lakers have ended their meeting with free agent Carmelo Anthony, concluding their pitch to get the high-scorer to sign with the Lakers.

The meeting lasted roughly two and a half hours and featured Mitch Kupchak, Jim and Jeanie Buss, executives from Time Warner Cable, and marketing directors from the Lakers.

One notable omission was Kobe Bryant, who missed the meeting due to travel complications after the time of the meeting was moved up. However, Bryant will actually get the last word with Anthony tonight after his scheduled meeting with Knicks officials.

The traffic delay by Bryant may actually be a blessing in disguise, as Bryant will likely get the last word before Melo’s decision is made. Today wraps up a cross-country, three day trip that started Tuesday in Chicago with the Bulls and went through Texas Wednesday with Houston and Dallas.

Right now, free agents on in a holding pattern, with the dominoes to start falling this weekend after Anthony makes a decision. The decisions of both he and LeBron will affect how the rest of the summer plays out.

The Lakers, along with the rest of the league, will be anxiously waiting for Melo’s decision. Tell us where you think he”s heading!

I’ve been having a recurring dream that Jeff Van Gundy is the Lakers coach and he’s wearing a Lakers baseball cap as the confetti falls from the Lakers winning the championship, and he’s hoisted into the air by the Lakers players. It’s so intensely vivid and real.
