Steve Nash hoping for “glimpses of old Steve Nash”

Even without the final season having been played, Steve Nash‘s Lakers career will be marred by the injuries that severely limited his time on the court.

After surprisingly acquiring Nash for a handful of draft picks, Lakers fans thought they’d found the best point guard to play beside Kobe Bryant in the Black Mamba’s career. What we’ve seen is a less than 100% Nash struggle to stay on the court and look like a shell of his former self.

Now, the expectations have lowered for Nash. No longer is he even expected to start, instead looked upon as a liability more than an asset. But with a summer full of training instead of rehabbing, Nash thinks he can find his way back onto the court and help the Lakers win.

On ESPN710 during Lakers media day, Nash talked about how much of his time in LA has been recovering from injuries:

"It’s been a huge part of my experience here, me dealing with what I have to deal with in my own head…The hopes I had coming here to light the city up, that was always so exciting coming here, and for that not to happen has always been disappointing….The injuries took a toll on me mentally…but I’ve grown through that."

Despite all the injuries limiting his mobility, Nash remains confident he can still hang in his final season before retirement.

"I know when I’m healthy I can still do it, but I haven’t been able to stay on the court for long periods of time. That messes with you, that this is my last season…There’s some pretty evil self-talk there. I can’t control what happens with the miles on my spineI’m going to try to enjoy every moment, to try to impart knowledge on these young kids. With any luck, you’ll be able to see a whole bunch of glimpses of old Steve Nash."
