Nike to Release Special Edition ‘5 Ring’ Shoe for Kobe Bryant Come Christmas

Kobe Bryant will get the special sneaker treatment this year as Nike has pulled out all the stops for the retiring Lakers star

Since around 2008, Nike has made it a tradition to release Christmas edition shoes for their signature athletes: Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and recently added Kyrie Irving.

This year proves no different, but they seem to have been wise to Kobe’s decision to retire prior to making his shoe, because this year they pulled out all the stops.

Unlike the other three athletes, whose shoe designs are relatively simple, Kobe Bryant’s shoe features an intricate design, even incorporating his past accomplishments onto the canvas that is the shoe.

Aply nicknamed the Kobe “5 Ring” edition, the shoe features five golden rings down the heel tab, obviously paying homage to Kobe’s five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In classic Nike fashion, the brand decided to go against the Lakers normal Purple and Gold color scheme, optiong to go with a red and black gradient which spans the entire shoe.

Additionally, as mentioned before, the shoe is topped off with golden accents — the Nike swoosh, Kobe’s insignia and of course, the five championship rings.

Arguably the best pair of Christmas edition Kobe’s since the neon green Kobe VI, nicknamed “Grinches,” after Dr. Seuss’ Christmas character, they will very likely be limited and difficult to get a hold of.
