For the second consecutive year, Lady Luck has smiled on the Los Angeles Lakers as they have landed the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery

For months now, fans have been desperately waiting to find out the results of the 2016 NBA draft lottery, especially in regards to the Los Angeles Lakers and what would happen to their top-3 protected draft pick. Now, the wait is finally over.

In classic Hollywood fashion, with a flair for the dramatic, the Los Angeles Lakers have defied all odds, keeping their 2016 pick, landing the second overall pick in the draft.

Now that the draft is out of the way, the realm of possibilities is now defined. This is to say, the front office and fans alike can with certainty discuss what they intend to do with the pick: the team can finally actually look at prospects they plan to select as well as listen to trades that they couldn’t have listened to previously.

Using history as a guide, the Lakers’ chances at keeping their pick wasn’t encouraging, so this was truly an amazing turn of events for the Purple and Gold.

Reloaded with a new head coach in Luke Walton, alongside a dynamic young core of Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson, D’Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr., and now, additional lottery talent or an established veteran, Los Angeles’ faithful are likely running wild in the streets.

While the team would have survived without the pick, their rebuild has now been greatly catalyzed and it’s about time!
