Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell took a photo with a fan while wearing some undeniably Russell Westbrook like gold sneakers

When it comes to fashion in the NBA, the first name that comes to mind for better or worse is Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook. There’s never a dull moment when it comes to Westbrook’s fashion sense, but it seems like Los Angeles Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell might be trying to follow in his footsteps.

The guard who just finished his rookie season with the Lakers was out in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon when he ran into a fan. He stopped and posed for a picture with the fan.

While that’s a simple gesture that plenty of celebrities would have the courtesy to take part in, the star of the picture isn’t Russell and isn’t the fan. Instead, what shines the most (pun intended) are D-Lo’s gold shoes:

Just look at those things. Those are the type of shoes that you have to be at least over 6-0 and most likely have to play a professional sport to be able to pull off. If you saw a 5-9 regular joe working at Starbucks wearing those under his jeans, you’d probably think that you’d entered the Twilight Zone.

That being said, you know Russell Westbrook approves of these bad boys.

Obviously this is just a 20-year-old young man making a bold fashion choice, but that actually may be a good sign for where D’Angelo Russell’s head is at this offseason as he’s training for his sophomore campaign.

When you think about a player like Westbrook, one of his defining characteristics is that he’s unflinchingly confident in himself. It’s the reason he could not care less about what’s said about his fashion choices and why he’s able to do some of the incredible things he does on a basketball court.

By that same logic, perhaps D-Lo’s footwear on Thursday (and other fashion choices, for what it’s worth) are an indication that he at least has a fraction of that same confident mentality. Maybe that’s reading too much into something, but you can’t overrate the intangibles of this league.
