Lakers Offseason: D’Angelo Russell Hosts Lakers vs Celtics Game in China

Lakers’ rising star, D’Angelo Russell may be on tour in China but he is still repping the Purple and Gold with pride overseas

Currently on tour in Beijing and Shanghai conducting NBA basketball clinics, Lakers’ guards D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson are also joined by Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rookie of the Year, Karl-Anthony Towns and Boston Celtics’ point guard and LA native, Isaiah Thomas.

Though the rising stars are there to promote the NBA and have a mini vacation before returning to the grind of training camp, you’d be wild to think they all aren’t still competitors at heart.

Seeing how Thomas is a member of the Lakers’ most bitter of rivals, it was only right that one of their stops on tour feature a Lakers versus Celtics themed pick up game, with the two coaches being none other than D’Angelo Russell and Isaiah Thomas themselves.

Here are some photos via Robbie Haught’s official Snapchat feed — a trainer Russell has been working with since last season.

More from Lake Show Life

Judging from the quick ten second clips Haught provided, it was far from a professional basketball game, but to know that Lakers came away with the victory should provide Lakers’ faithful with at least a little smile.

To no ones surprise, it was recently reported that the Lakers would be one of the many teams going hard after Kevin Durant this offseason. However, another team that was also included on that long list was the Boston Celtics.

Though I hate to admit it, the move to Boston would actually make sense for KD seeing that they likely represent the path of least resistance to the NBA Finals.

That said, Durant has also come out on the record as saying things like “money isn’t everything,” but more so, that “the two most important things for me is being around great people having fun playing basketball,” so honestly, it’s hard to tell where he’s leaning at this point in his free agency venture.

KD is by far the biggest free agent name this offseason, so it will be interesting to see which angle the Lakers’ take when trying to reel in the player who could single-handedly bring the franchise back to prominence. Only time will tell.
