Klay Thompson threw a slight jab at his old man, saying that the current Warriors are better than the Showtime Lakers

When you talk about the greatest teams in the history of the NBA, one of the first that have to come to mind is the Showtime Lakers of the 1980s led by the ineffable Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and many other memorable and great names in the canon of basketball in Los Angeles.

Another one of those names on those teams was Mychal Thompson. Thompson was a huge presence for those Showtime Lakers teams and now his legacy carries on in the NBA with his son: Klay Thompson.

On Sunday night after Klay and the Golden State Warriors trounced the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the 2016 NBA Finals, though, Thompson and his teammate had an exchange regarding the Showtime Lakers that prompted Klay to take a minor jab at the team his father played for:

Anyone who thinks that this isn’t all in good fun is severely missing the point of what’s going on here, but that shouldn’t make it any less hilarious. Perhaps this Golden State team is better than the Showtime Lakers and Klay isn’t just blowing smoke—but this feels more like a rib on his father than anything.

However, this really shows what frame of mind that the Warriors are in right now up 2-0 in the Finals. Not only do they obviously feel comfortable enough to roll over the Cavs and to joke, but they also are confident enough to where they can simply joke around regarding their place in NBA history as an all-time great team being mentioned with the Lakers.

Regardless of if you think the Lakers of the 1980s or the Warriors of present day are the better overall team in the history of the league, it feels safe to say that it looks like the debate will live on in the Thompson household.
