NBA Free Agency Rumors: Lakers, Evan Turner Have Mutual Interest
The Lakers and Evan Turner reportedly have mutual interest in one another in 2016 NBA free agency
The Los Angeles Lakers made a splash right away in 2016 NBA free agency as they were one of the first teams to make contact with a free agent as they targeted center Timofey Mozgov. However, they weren’t about to stop there in regards to their shopping below the upper-tier of free agents.
Instead, they were going to look on the wings to try and bolster their rotation in that area with a much maligned player from the Boston Celtics: Evan Turner.
According to a report from David Aldridge of NBA.com, the Lakers have already reached out to Evan Turner and there is mutual interest between the two parties:

Oh man.
Suffice it to say that Turner is one of the most hate-inspring players in the entire NBA on the Internet. He’s a player that does a lot of things for whatever team he’s on, but doesn’t do any of those things exceptionally well.

More than that, he’s also a player that just really doesn’t seem to make any sense at all for the Lakers.
When you think about what the Lakers need on the wing, they need players that can stretch the floor offensively playing big minutes and that can lock down on the defensive end of the floor. Those are probably two of the biggest consistent weaknesses when it comes to Turner as a player.
Considering that the Lakers have already locked up Mozgov to a deal that was substantially more expensive than you would ever have expected it to be, then going after a player like Turner that is seemingly a bad fit—no matter what role he would be playing in—is curious to say the least.
Let’s just say that Lakers fans probably imagined free agency starting off just a bit differently than it has to this point.
