Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Nick Young opted out of his contract, making it unlikely he would return to the Lakers. Now it seems like he could be going ring chasing with the Golden State Warriors.

Los Angeles Lakers rumors have picked up recently with meetings set up with free agents. One player, Nick Young. has long been rumored to be out of Los Angeles after opting out of his contract.

When he opted out of his contract with the Lakers it was assumed he was looking for a bigger payday. However, Young was recently spotted with Golden State Warriors backup center JaVale McGee joking and laughing on McGee’s SnapChat fueling rumors of Swaggy P competing for a ring in Oakland.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN then reported that Young very well may be joining the Warriors and grabbing a chance at being a title contender.

The Lakers were reportedly interested in bringing Young back but it’s clear Young’s interest is in the free market. Young was thought to be looking for another team based on the opportunity for more earnings than Los Angeles would have been willing to give up but instead, he may be prioritizing winning at this stage of his career.

Young, 32, had a bounce-back year for the Lakers last season as personal issues and feud with ex-teammate D’Angelo Russell contributed to an off year for him in his 2015-2016 campaign. But he thrived in Luke Walton’s system as one of the most consistent Lakers and even showed an interest in playing defense. Last season he averaged 13.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game for the purple and gold.

Considering Walton’s system is much like Golden State’s thanks to Walton’s time under Steve Kerr as an assistant coach and interim head coach for the Warriors, it’s likely Young will also flourish in limited minutes as a reserve for Golden State.

As long as Young continues to make an effort on defense, a three-point shooting team like the Warriors could use another weapon from beyond the arc where Young shot an impressive 40.4 percent while shooting 43 percent from the floor overall.

There’s no confirmation of the deal yet but if Young mingling with Golden State’s players and a Tweet from Wojnarowski mean anything, it’s that a deal may be done between Young and the Warriors as soon as they finalize the re-signing of Kevin Durant.
