Former Los Angeles Lakers sixth man Lou Williams will return to Los Angeles after a stint with the Houston Rockets, but Lakers fans will still be missing him since he will play for the Clippers in LA.

On February 21, 2017, the Los Angeles Lakers Magic Johnson traded Lou Williams, Sweet Lou, to the Houston Rockets for Corey Brewer and a draft pick. Williams moved out of his place in Marina Del Rey and headed for Houston, but he wished he had kept his place because four months later he is back in Los Angeles.

After four months with Houston, successfully getting to the semi-finals of the NBA Championship, the Rockets unsuccessfully did not get into the finals. Williams was traded when his stock was high, he was a major part of why the Lakers were winning early on in the season. At the time of the Trade, Williams was the No. 1 on the Lakers in average points per game at 18.6. He was also No. 1 in the NBA in points scored off the bench.

Williams had scored a ton of points against Memphis (40 points), Utah (38 points) and the Suns (35 points.) He played in 58 games for the Lakers in the 2017 season.

Williams spent his first seven years in the NBA playing for Philadelphia. After finishing out the season with the Rockets, Houston traded Williams to the Clippers in the Chris Paul trade.

This didn’t sit well with Williams, he knows it is a business, but also it is hard to keep uprooting your life. On top of that, Williams was probably on his way to his 2nd Sixth-Man-of-the Year award, so the trade didn’t help his cause. Now though, Sweet Lou he is looking forward to filling Jamal Crawford’s role in LA.

Williams moved his family back to Los Angeles. The Clippers are in for $7 million and one-year left on his contract. He could be trade bait again, and Lakers fans would love to have him back. When Williams was traded to Houston, he didn’t understand just how much he was adored in Los Angeles. It was clear from his goodbye Tweet that he enjoyed his time on the Lakers squad.

We found Lou playing in the Drew League and in his debut, he scored a record 50 points, every ball he shot seemed to go in. Williams tells us about how it felt to play in the Drew and about Lakers fans giving him love:

It could just be this Lakers fan, but I would take Lou Williams back in the Purple and Gold in a heartbeat. He belongs to the team and coaching staff he enjoyed so much, but for now, he will play for the Lakers rival Clippers and Lakers fans will have to just pray he comes back somehow. We thank Sweet Lou again for giving it his all on the Lakers, and for talking with us. We wish him success.
