After some bold statements by Magic Johnson, Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka responded rather well.

Monday turned out to be a very busy day for the Los Angeles Lakers. Just as things looked like they were calming down for the franchise, more drama was stirred up by Magic Johnson.

Johnson made an appearance on ESPN’s First Take and talked very openly about the franchise. Considering Johnson resigned without any notice from the franchise that he loves, the comments he made in public didn’t help the franchise at all.

From the appearance, it is clear that Johnson believed that general manager Rob Pelinka was talking behind his back and trying to undermine him. This seems to be one of the major reasons why Johnson resigned, and his feeling about the situation is a poor look for the Lakers.

Unlike Johnson, Pelinka didn’t say anything negative about the former president of basketball operations for the Lakers. Here’s what he had to say on Spectrum Sportsnet with text via SilverScreenAndRoll.com.

"“I think the most important thing for me is that the two years of getting to work side-by-side with Earvin are some of the greatest memories I have in sports and work. He’s an unbelievable person to work with. He fills the room with joy and vision. And truly it’s saddening and disheartening to think that he believes things that are a misperception. I think all of us in life have been through things where maybe there’s third-party whispers, or maybe ‘he said, she said’ things that aren’t true."

Pelinka certainly said the right things in this messy situation for the Lakers. Johnson said that he believed the rumors about the betrayal of Pelinka on television, and that is very damaging to both Pelinka and the Lakers.

This whole situation for the Lakers has become a mess now, and one that the franchise needs to clean up. The Lakers have a very big offseason ahead of them with a real chance to improve in free agency.

However, negative things like this nonsense aren’t going to help persuade elite free agents to come to Los Angeles. The Lakers need to find stability in their front office, and having the former president of basketball operations saying he was betrayed by the general manager does not help that.

Hopefully, Pelinka and Johnson will be able to get hash out their problems and sort out what Johnson thinks that Pelinka did. Pelinka’s comments about this bad situation were certainly good publicly, and hopefully the franchise can begin to move forward and get some stability.
