Who said the Phoenix Suns weren’t entertaining anymore? In a game that featured 276 total points, 226 shot attempts, 68 three-point attempts and 64 assists, the Los Angeles Lakers proved they could still rely on their offense to win games. Throughout the past few seasons, the Lakers have boasted a top-notch offense. This season has been no different, as L.A. ranks fourth in offensive efficiency. Yet during their 12-1 streak after the All-Star break, the Laker’s offense took a back seat to their stellar defensive effort and intensity. Their previous offensive high during the streak was 108 points, a feat [...]
Lakers Sink to New Low in Houston
The Los Angeles Lakers are officially out of excuses. This team has some serious issues and I’m not sure even Ron Artest’s psychologist could diagnose their problems. To begin, Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol were pathetic. The two MVPs combined to shoot 12 of 32 from the field with Gasol putting up just 8 attempts scoring only 8 points. Gasol has the excuse of being tired as he put in another 38 minutes of work. As for KB24, well he’s reverting to Kobe circa 2006 when Mamba thought he had to do it all and trusted only his shadow. Lamar [...]
Opponents Following Simple Formula to Beat Lakers
There really isn’t any big mystery surrounding what it takes to defeat the Los Angeles Lakers. If you’ve got a quick point guard then you’ve already won half the battle. Of course, this is nothing new. The Lake Show has never had a lockdown defender at the point guard position during either of Phil Jackson’s stints in Los Angeles. Who can forget the desperation move of putting Tyronn Lue on Allen Iverson during the 2001 Finals? If don’t recall that terrible tactic, then this image alone sums up how that matchup went. Part of PJ’s philosophy has always been to [...]
Lakers Ring In Season with Dramatic Win
The curtain went up on the 2010-11 version of the Lake Show and it was a Hollywood ending that had Steve Blake making a curtain call. After one of the classiest ring ceremonies you’ll ever see, the Lakers rose banner number 16 and began the quest to three-peat. The first half was a defensive nightmare for the Lakers. Perhaps a sign of Kobe Bryant’s continued road to recovery and Derek Fisher’s age, the Houston Rocket backcourt demolished the Lakers as Aaron Brooks and Kevin Martin did damage. By game’s end Brooks put a healthy 24 points and 9 assists in [...]
D-Fish Delivers for Lakers in Game 4: Checkmate!
His legacy as a Los Angeles Laker was sealed in just four tenths of a second in San Antonio back in 2004. His three championship rings already validated his status as an invaluable cog in the clockwork of the Laker dynasty that ushered in the new millennium. Now, Derek Fisher has authored the moment that will define Kobe Bryant’s legacy and Phil Jackson’s announcement as the greatest coach in the history of the NBA. With two flicks of his left wrist, two timely three point baskets will forever make Laker fans think of #2 as #1 in their hearts. The 2009 NBA Finals [...]
10 Reasons Why the Lakers Should Beat the Magic
Kobe Bryant. This is a given, so I figured I’d get it out of the way. The man is a winner. Unlike Lebron, though, he’s a winner surrounded by other winners. That makes for a winning team. Lamar Odom. Lamar is one of those guys who is not built like the average player. His abilities don’t make sense for his body type, and he uses that to exploit defenses in ways they’ve never seen from someone who can also cover a 7 footer on defense. Orlando lives AND dies by the three-pointer. L.A. has been pretty beaten up by the [...]
PPG: Other Than Kobe, This Lakers Team Is Heartless
Imagine Megan Fox having a one-night stand with Jonah Hill. Now imagine her doing it three times in 10 days. That describes the Lakers’ performance in this second-round series against the Rockets. The only thing worse than the talent discrepancy the Lakers hold over the Rockets is the “gives a sh**” discrepancy the Rockets hold over the Lakers. Other than Aaron Brooks, Luis Scola and Ron Artest, what healthy Rockets’ player could even make the Lakers? Carl Landry? Fine, he’d replace Josh Powell as the Lakers’ on-bench mannequin. Kyle Lowry? He might good enough to take Shannon Brown’s eight minutes [...]
10 Things I Hate About You: Houston Rockets
10 Things I Hate About the Houston Rockets… 10. That I actually like seeing Dikembe Mutombo’s reaction on the bench when the Rockets make a nice play. 9. That milk-drinker/do-gooder Shane Battier looks like a pug and saves kittens out of trees. He’s the kind of guy every girl’s old man wants them to bring home. I despise that. Freakin’ boy scout. 8. There is no reason for anyone ever to wear a red bowtie and sports coat, Aaron Brooks. Unless you are calling the shots at Barnum and Bailey or chatting with Chairy. Brooks also looks like a pygmy [...]
10 Things: Lakers-Rockets Game 3
Here are the 10 things I’ll be watching during tonight’s Lakers-Rockets Game 3: 10. How much burn will Andrew Bynum get tonight? 10 minutes? 15? 20? Less than 10? Diaper Drew might be stuck in the playpen for the rest of this series. 9. Will we see the small-ball line-up of Jordan Farmar at the point, Shannon Brown at the two, Sasha Vujacic at the three and Lamar Odom at the four again? Presumably in the second quarter? 8. How many shots will Kobe Bryant take? He’s been more assassin than facilitator so far this series, and that trend will [...]
