2012-13 Statistics:

19 games, 10.5 MPG, 3.4 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 0.5 APG, .329 FG%, .273 FT%

Season Recap:

Devin Ebanks had one of the best seats in the crowd to watch the Lakers disappointing 2012-13 campaign. Okay… maybe he wasn’t technically a fan, but he hardly played at all and had essentially no impact on the season for the Lakers. It seemed like he would see an increased role this season after he had a strong postseason off the bench for the Lakers at the end of the 2011-12 season, but the acquiring of Earl Clark, Antawn Jamison, and Jodie Meeks over the off-season really hindered those plans. Ebanks scored just 0.78% of the Lakers total points for the entire season, nearly all of them in the first couple months of the year.

2013-14 Forecast:

Devin Ebanks was on a one-year contract that is now expired so he’ll be able to test the waters in free agency. I do not see him returning to the Lakers, but I could see someone signing him as a bench player. Ebanks is young and has good length for a small forward. He’s shown bursts of potential in the past. I could see a rebuilding team offer Ebanks a contract and try to develop him into a serviceable role player.

College Highlights:

Ebanks hasn’t played consistently enough in the NBA for a full highlight reel, but here are some clips of his play from a few years ago when he was playing his college ball for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

2013-14 Prediction:

I don’t expect much from Ebanks. Perhaps he’ll put together a decent season off the bench for a team other than the Lakers. I could see him scoring about 5 PPG and grabbing about 3 RPG as an energy guy for some team in need of that sort of player.

Six games.

Prior to the start of the 2012-13 season, if you told us that a combination of Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard wouldn’t win a championship, we’d likely have hesitated, taken a collective sigh and ultimately commended you for attempting to put the hype in perspective.

However if you told us that the team would be at the mercy of the Utah Jazz and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs, we – as well as just about every other notable analyst in the nation – would have thought you were either off your rocker or just a Celtics fan.

Yet here were are.

With that, as we cross our fingers until that final regular season tip off in Houston, we want to know who you think the most important player is for the Lakers over the next six games?

–

Kobe Bryant and the simple fact he’s Kobe Bryant?

Dwight Howard, will he be able to anchor the defense and knock down free throws? Is he mentally strong enough to handle the pressure?

Steve Nash, with his creativity and ability to stretch the floor?

Pau Gasol, will he continue to find his role and thrive in it?

Mike D’Antoni, will he remember it’s a two-way game or that his star players are all either over thirty or coming off a back surgery?

Are there any role players you think need to step up in a huge way?

–
