Ummm….weren’t the Clippers supposed to be the best team in Los Angeles this year? I mean, I woke up this morning and saw that a team not named the Clippers has won the Pacific Division. Come to find out this team called the Los Angeles Lakers won the Pacific thanks to the Clipps losing in Atlanta.
Guess what else?
Turns out the Chris Paul-less Lakers have won the Pacific for five years running.
Who knew?
I mean, every night all we ever hear about is the Clippers and all those exciting highlights. I just assumed that meant they were the best team in Los Angeles. They had to be! Why else would every one of the experts have picked them to contend for the Western Conference crown?
Guess the Clipper faithful are learning what the fans in South Beach had to swallow last year. Champions aren’t built overnight and hype does not equal greatness.
Hopefully the Clipper contingent isn’t banking on a deep playoff run either. They’re going to be playing the Memphis Grizzlies in round one which pretty much means a one-and-done is in order. Almost forgot to mention they might not have homecourt too. That can’t be good.
Now the Lakers aren’t guaranteed a clear path to the second round either. Not with Metta World Peace having to watch the first round from his hotel room. So I’m not going as far as to say the Lakers are a sure bet to go further than the Clippers. But the standings do pretty much reflect what those of us who actually watch the game already know – even with the most talent they’ve ever had on their roster, the Clippers are still no better than the Lakers with the worst roster they’ve had in five years.
Thanks for playing, Clippers. Enjoy all those highlights. I’m sure they’ll help forget a horrible playoff showing.
