Lakers Trade Rumors: Pau Gasol for Kevin Garnett? No thanks

The Lakers’ trade rumor mill has heated up recently, especially concerning Pau Gasol, who is the Lakers’ most valuable asset.

Of course, it makes sense that Pau’s name has been thrown around since he had another flighty season in Los Angeles, and frustration with him has grown among the fan-base (although everyone loves him still). This new trade rumor, though? It’s just silly and stupid.

This time, there are rumors about a Pau-for-Kevin Garnett trade. Uh, okay. From NBA.com (via Lakers Nation):

"There are other possible landing places as well. Maybe the Lakers? Garnett has a home in Malibu, and the Lakers have Kobe Bryant. What they don’t have is cap room, but that can be resolved if they agree to a sign and trade for Pau Gasol. The Lakers desperately want Gasol’s contract (three years, $60 million) off the cap and tried to trade him last summer. The Celtics, with only Pierce and Rondo making decent money, could take Gasol, although that would likely prevent them from re-signing Brandon Bass."

Yuck. Please, Jim Buss, if this happens, I’m going to personally start a campaign for yourself to fire yourself. Kevin Garnett is older, less consistent, less effective and punches guys in places no one wants to be punched in.

The good thing is, that this is just baseless speculation in which some guy is tossing out names. That guy just happens to write for NBA.com and just happens to possibly have some insider knowledge, or are at least more privy to the situation than I am.

I mean, how many times are we going to hear the “xxxx has a home in xxxx, so it could happen” as if basketball players don’t have homes near every NBA city that isn’t Oklahoma City or Toronto?

Hey, I like trade rumors as much as the next guy, but this one’s just silly. Can we get a trade rumor that’s actually a little bit more positive for the Purple and Gold, please? We need something to hang our hats on in June.
