2) A Return to Entertainment
Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world. Its the playground for celebrities and their hangers on. The worst thing you could be in LA is boring. Money isn’t an problem for Lakers’ season ticket holders, but no compelling reason to go Staples Center is.
The Lakers sold their soul to Phil Jackson in order to win Championships, but in most cases the regular seasons under him were joyless slogs. As long as the team delivered in the playoffs it was tolerated.
As the Championship era ended, the last two seasons saw the Lakers as both mediocre and boring to watch. You had no young stars to watch develop. You watched youthful teams like the Thunder and Clippers with envy. You inwardly worried if the Heat had usurped the cultural mantle the Lakers had held for the better part of 30 years.
A return to a more athletic and up tempo style of play would bring back fan interest and set the stage for a rebirth of the brand. It would be a league wide advertisement to Kyrie Irving,Carmelo Anthony, and others.
