4) The 2014 Draft

This summer’s draft might be the deepest ever. The high school class of 2013 is the best since the legendary high school class of 1981 that produced Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Joe Dumars, Charles Oakley, A.C. Green, Terry Porter, Alvin Robertson, Kevin Willis, Xavier McDaniel, and Detlef Schrempf.

There is no need for the Lakers to chase a lottery pick in this year’s draft. There will be plenty of  top flight talent in the middle to late part of the first round. Overlooked members of this year’s high school class but outstanding developmental prospects like Aaron Harrison, Wayne Selden, Noah Vonleh, and James Young  would be available even with the Lakers possessing a top 10 record.

Other top prospects that would have been lottery picks in a normal year and are most likely to contribute to an NBA rotation right away like Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGarry, Isiah Austin, Sam Dekker, and Kyle Anderson, will also be available. “Riggin for Wiggins” or “Dismantle for Randle” is for other franchises not the Purple and Gold.
