Slashing and Playmaking – Russell Westbrook. During All-Star games, both Westbrook and Kevin Love play wide receiver and quarterback for easy transition points. Love’s ability to grab a defensive board, look down-court, and hit Westbrook for a touchdown pass is unique. Not only does Westbrook have breakaway speed in transition, he has excellent quickness in the halfcourt set. Pay attention to his game. Against Miami in the Finals, his game was completely predicated on a midrange jumpshot and attacking the hoop. He had multiple 40-point games for Oklahoma City, and fought until the end against Miami for the championship. He’s able to defend well, cutting into passing lanes, and switch defensively if necesssary. He’s an average playmaker at best, but the combined playmaking of Kevin Love and Westbrook add a dimension that is tough to match on one team.
