3. Mitch Kupchak and the Buss’ still have a plan
It certainly wasn’t in doubt that Kupchak and the Buss’ have a plan, but with such a dismal season, hope may have been lost by some fans. But through recent weeks with interviews with Jeanie Buss and today’s press conference with Kupchak, it’s evident that they have a clear path for the future. Confident as always, Kupchak never faltered, answered each question as straight forward as he could, and it was impossible to miss that they knew what they were doing this summer. For a franchise at a crossroads, the least you can ask for is a confident leader and a clear path, both of which the Lakers have.
2. Mike D’Antoni may very well NOT be gone
What may have angered Lakers fans the most is the support thrown behind Mike D’Antoni. Seen as the face of the Lakers collapse over the last two years, D’Antoni was the scapegoat for most Lakers fans. However, nearly every player offered their support to MDA, and most importantly, Kupchak supported him. While it wasn’t a hard stance, Kupchak pointed out repeatedly that D’Antoni had two years remaining on his contract and if anything changed, he’d let everyone know. We certainly won’t know in the near future the state of D’Antoni’s employment, but the sense right now is he’s staying.
