2014 Draft: Watch Out for These Players

7 of 7

Every single one of these players has the chance to be successful at the NBA level. There are risks with every pick in the draft, even #1.  Think Michael Jordan had 20′ range as a rookie?  Think Olajuwon was unselfish when he was drafted as a rookie? Not necessarily.  Still, people have different definition of red flags in regards to the NBA draft.  Not being able to maximize physical tools, lacking basketball IQ, and lacking a true position could be considered red flags as well.  Everyone wants a chance to succeed.  For some, it’s at the NBA level.  For others, it’s at a professional league, elsewhere.

Sometimes, it just takes an adjustment.  Kawhi Leonard was a power forward out of San Diego State.  He was undersized at 6’5″ but has a 7’3″ wingspan with massive hands.  He changed his game.  He got better at attacking the basket off-the-bounce. He developed a midrange game.  He expanded his range to the 3-point line.  He defends elite perimeter players at a high level.  He may be the next face of the Spurs.

These guys could do it too.
