5 Trades The Lakers Should Consider Before Draft Day
By Jacob Rude
2. Pacers trade Roy Hibbert for the #7 pick
Financially, there may need to be some other work done, but talk about blockbusters. After collapsing in the latter in the season as a whole, the Pacers could be looking to shake things up. With Hibbert taking the blunt of the blame based on his atrocious play the latter half of the season, it could be easy to forget the force he can be.
For the Lakers, this trade signals an instant “win-now” mentality. If they could somehow package Nash into this trade, the Lakers could still have enough room to sign a superstar under the assumption they’d take a paycut. But with one of the best offensive players in the game and one of the defensive players in the game, it’s an appealing though.
The downside is that, like Young in the previous trade, Hibbert has a massive $15 million player option for 2015-16, which would also severely hinder any potential signings that summer. Still, at his best, Hibbert is worth the amount he is due, but getting him to maintain that level of success will be difficult.
