Julius Randle On the Lakers; 4 Reasons to be Excited by the Selection
By Harry Burden
Determination
It would be foolish to suggest that any player drafted this high would have issues motivating themselves to perform and perfect as, if they weren’t dedicated, they wouldn’t be in such a position. With that being said, Randle is said to be, by nature, an incredibly focused and driven individual. Evidence of such grit can be found whilst Randle was in his senior year of High School. After fracturing his foot during the weekend after Thanksgiving, he missed the next three months of action, only to return and lead Prestonwood Christian Academy to their third state title in four years. His enthusiasm and will to work was also noted by Kentucky staff during his sole year with the Wildcats and now, fans are hoping that his motor doesn’t run out of gas coming into the premier basketball league in the world, but who really thinks that’s going to happen?
"“I think I should’ve went higher for sure, but, you know, the teams that passed on me will regret it.”"
As well as being motivated by himself, it seems as if the reluctance from other teams to select him has only caused him to be more driven than ever. Also, with introductory texts and tweets from Kobe Bean Bryant, notorious for his tough attitude towards rookies, it seems as if Randle’s honeymoon into the NBA may swiftly turn in to a kick up the backside into action.
"“I grew up a huge fan of Kobe. He was always my idol, my favorite player growing up, and now I have a chance to pick his brain and learn a lot from him.”"
Excited? I know I am.
It would be foolish to suggest that Randle is a sure call for success in this league. Nobody knows what the future holds and whilst many roadblocks are sure to come in his way, I’d like to wish the best of luck to a man with a star-studded future with our beloved Purple and Gold.
