Kendall Marshall started as a point guard for the Lakers last year.  As a North Carolina alum, he is a traditional point guard.  What he lacks in finishing ability, he makes up for in streak 3-point shooting, elite court awareness, and tremendous passing abilities.  Hopefully, he’s able to add a wrinkle to his game this summer.  A real mid-range jumpshot, outside of his 3-point set shot, would open up his game in the halfcourt set.  Defenses actually play him to drive, because he’s an average finisher around the hoop at best.

Jordan Clarkson is also a combo guard.  Similar to DeAndre Kane, he has an attacking style.  Kane is physically stronger, but Clarkson adds 6’5″ height with a 6’8″ wingspan and more dynamic dribble combinations when getting to the basket.  While he’s an average athlete for the shooting guard position, his size offers tremendous advantages at the point guard slot.  Both Kane and Clarkson had exceptionally high rates of finishing at the basket and drawing free throws.  His jumpshot isn’t as polished, indicated by his 28% shooting behind the arc last season.  His form lacks true arc with a low shot pocket.  He is more of a project point guard compared to DeAndre Kane, but also has more upside due to point guard skills by age and additional length.
