Shooting Guards – James Harden, Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan
After the deepest position, we have maybe the weakest, which is also a testament to how much talent the USA has. James Harden is the only question mark as he’ll be entering the point when most other stars sit out. However, with an opportunity to start on an Olympic team for the fist time in his career, it’s hard to see him passing it up.
After Harden, it’s a toss-up. Thompson gets the nod as of right now after his great performance shooting in Spain, but also his solid defensive play. Coach K has brought a zone-buster shooter the last two Olympics, and Thompson can play that role as well as many others.
With DeRozan, I’m projecting him to continue his level of play and earn the final spot on this roster. With the likes of Bradley Beal, Gordon Hayward, and possibly even Victor Oladipo battling for that spot, it’ll be hotly contested. This spot is the one most up-for-grabs.
