3. It’s just one (preseason) game, but brace yourselves
All of this may seem like overreactions. Hell, it may be. But this was a REALLY bad performance from every standpoint. They were bad offensively, they were bad defensively, they were outmatched in every aspect. Sure, it’s a preseason game a playoff team that could very well found themselves deep in the playoffs this year.
But this should be a big-time wake-up call for the Lakers. After a win in game one of the preseason and a semi-competitive loss in game two, this was a very big dose of reality to the Lakers and their fans.
I, myself, was convinced that the Lakers weren’t going to be as bad as they were last year. Again, tonight was probably an exception instead of the rule this season, but it’s hardly going to be any prettier this year than last.
The argument that Kobe Bryant wouldn’t let a team finish any worse than last year was quickly dispelled tonight after his 3-for-13 performance. This is a average roster at best, which Scott will have to motivate into something better. Tonight, he and the Lakers failed miserably. Let’s hope it’s not a sign of the season.
