Jeremy Lin News: Lin to start on opening night
By Jacob Rude
It was all but official following Steve Nash‘s injury, but Jeremy Lin has officially been named starting point guard for Tuesday night’s opening game against his former team, the Houston Rockets.
This sets up an awesome narrative for the game, one of the many story lines for the night. Aside from it being the first time Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard square off since the latter left the Lakers, it’s also another game for Howard in the Staples Center, something that will always create headlines.
Now, with Lin in the picture, it becomes even more must-watch. Lin was often misused while in Houston by head coach Kevin McHale, which could have caused tension for the guard and his former coach.
The fact Lin hesitates tells you he’s uncertain about how he was treated in the least. To finish his time off in Houston, the Rockets packaged him with a first round pick in an attempt to bring in Chris Bosh, showing how expendable he was to them.
Long story short, Lin will have revenge on the mind.
Will it be enough to lift an undermanned Lakers squad past Houston? Let us not forget what happened on last year’s opening night, reminding us anything is possible.
