There was simply a wealth of smarts and leadership grown from both teams. It started at management, and management made the decisions to get the right players on the court. Sure, issues like cap space became more of a prominent issue with the ever-changing CBA, but the Spurs had the players willing to make the sacrifice to be on the team.
The Lakers, now in constant flux, only have Mitch Kupchak, Jeanie Buss, and Gary Vitti from their earlier reign. Jim Buss is still learning. The team has seen a rotation of head coaches. At least, they’re trying to get back to the Lakers team culture, by adding Byron Scott.
Sure, Kobe Bryant wishes he had the stability of the San Antonio Spurs. We as Laker fans, all do. Unfortunately, the current Laker team is in transition. It’s only a matter of time before the San Antonio Spurs go through a similar phase.
