Jordan Clarkson shows his good and bad side

As of right now, Clarkson is probably the most important player on the Lakers’ active roster.  With the most potential, Clarkson was inserted into the starting lineup, not because he was worthy, but just to get him some experience.  After scoring 18 points in consecutive games against John Wall and Derrick Rose, Clarkson once again looked like the best player on the Lakers team.  Clarkson finished with 19 points, (yes the last three shouldn’t count), and only two turnovers in 34 minutes of action.

The only issue with Clarkson is his poor play-making abilities.  In his last three games, the “point guard” is averaging only 2.67 assists per game, and recorded only one against the Knicks.  This weakness was exposed as the Lakers struggled to get open looks all night.  Except for Boozer isolation plays, the Lakers seemed to always be in the last five seconds of the shot clock.

Clarkson’s jump shot is arguably his most improved asset.  Clarkson connected on three of his five attempts from long range, and shot 4-6 from the free throw line.  If Clarkson can continue to hit his jumpers, the paint will look wide open as defenders will have to play up on him.

Whether Clarkson is a point guard or shooting guard, there is no doubt that he continues to get better every game.  However, as he continues to play at the point guard spot, he must work on his ball handling and passing skills in order to take his game to the next level.
