Nick Young

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Shooting guard Nick Young went from Laker savior last season to scapegoat this season with long stretches of inconsistent play. The one that they call “Swaggy P” is usually never at a loss for confidence, but this year it seems that he has lost a bit of his mojo.

With his ability to get hot and shoot the lights out of the building, Young would usually be a dangerous person to handle the tank. In his last 15 games last season, Young averaged 21.5 points while shooting 45.3 percent from three-point range. This season however, Young has been nowhere near that level of production.

  • For the 2014-15 season, Young has been averaging 14.1 points while shooting a career low 37.3 percent from the field. In his last 12 games before missing the last four with an ankle injury, Young was somehow underperforming his awful season numbers by averaging 13.1 points on 30.8 percent shooting from the field and 29.7 percent shooting from beyond the three-point arc.

One thing is for sure: even if the shot is not falling, Young will continue to keep shooting, for better or for worse. And judging from how things are going for him this season, it will continue to be worse for the Lakers. That kind of mentality is sure to help the Lakers fall further in the standings and get one step closer to that top five pick.
