Lakers: The Search for All-Star Talent through the NBA Draft

D’Angelo Russell

The Ohio State freshman skyrocketed up the draft boards with a recent string of near triple double play.  He is currently averaging 19.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game in 33 minutes of play.  At just over 6’3″ with a long wingspan, he has shown point guard court awareness and passing abilities.  While he excels in transition, he does a great job of executing the pick-and-roll while hitting the roll-man at a high rate. He finds shooters in rhythm. While he’s not a top-flight athlete, he has a quick first step and shoots 43.8% behind the 3-point line, which keeps defenders honest. Defensively, his lateral agility, court awareness, and long arms give him the tools to force turnovers and cause disruptions in a half-court set.
